by Rukia Nantale
Ages 8–12
Simbegwire by Rukia Nantale is best for children aged 8–12. It has moderate violence, some scary moments, no romance and no bad language.
After losing her mother, Simbegwire and her father find comfort in their shared routine. But when her father remarries and leaves for work, her new stepmother treats her harshly, forcing her to do heavy chores and tearing her late mother's treasured blanket. Desperate and heartbroken, Simbegwire flees toward her father's path, taking shelter high in a tree beside a stream and singing a song of longing. When a family member recognizes the tune, Simbegwire finds safety and a chance for understanding and healing.
