The plan

Six weeks, in three parts.

  • Weeks 1–2

    Pick a stack

Three to five books across a few kinds: one funny, one adventure, one true story. They choose.

  • Weeks 3–4

    Read, talk, repeat

A daily reading time, and a chat about the story over dinner, not a quiz.

  • Weeks 5–6

End with a story of their own

A verdict on their favourite book, then the first page of a story they write.

Summer reading bingo

Nine small challenges for the break. Print it for the fridge.

Questions parents ask

Q: How many books should my child read over the summer?
There's no right number. For most children, three to six books they enjoy beats a long list they drop. What matters is reading on most days.
Q: What is the summer slide?
Over a long break without books, children can lose some of the reading ground they gained at school. Reading on most days over the holidays, even 15 to 20 minutes, helps them go back without starting over.
Q: When are the summer holidays in my country?
For the 2026–27 school year: Australia: mid-December to late January or early February (dates vary by state); India: april or May to June (varies by state and school); Singapore: late May to late June; United States and Canada: june to August; United Kingdom: late July to early September; UAE: july to August. Check your child's school calendar, since schools can differ.
Q: Online summer camp or reading sessions?
A camp fills a few weeks with group activities. 1:1 reading sessions are one child with one mentor, booked at your own pace, and they can carry on into the school year. Some families do both.
Q: Can we have sessions while we travel over the holidays?
Yes. Sessions are online on Google Meet, so they work from anywhere with a stable connection, at a time booked in your own time zone. You can also pause sessions over the break and pick them up when school starts.
