Questions parents ask

How do I build a reading habit in my child?

Start small, with a few minutes at the same time each day, tied to something that already happens, like bedtime. Keep books they enjoy within reach, read where they can see you, and keep it enjoyable rather than a chore.

Why doesn’t my child like reading?

Usually the book is the problem, not reading itself: too hard, too easy or not about anything they care about. Finding the right book, and someone to talk about it with, brings most children back.

Do audiobooks and graphic novels count as reading?

Yes. Audiobooks build vocabulary, comprehension and love of stories, and graphic novels are real reading with their own skills. Both work best alongside some print reading.
